Sustainability Starts Here

Welcome to Sustainable Consumptions. We are a community-based organization focused on educating the community on food systems while concentrating on holistic and sustainable approaches to living.

What is a Food System?

A food system includes the entire path food travels throughout its existence. Traditionally these paths begin either on land or in a source of water. On land, life might begin in a field, an orchard, a forest, or even your own backyard. In water, life could begin in a creek, river, pond, lake, or ocean. With modern technology, it is possible for life to begin in a hydroponic system, a lab, or other locations.

From the source, the process continues until it ends up being consumed by you through your body’s digestive system or decomposing somewhere along the way. Every part from germinating, growing, harvesting, processing, packaging, transporting, marketing, consuming, and disposing of foods and their byproducts is included in a food system. All of the inputs and outputs generated during each step are included in the process.

Community Action

The choices we make as individuals and as a community affect and are affected by the food systems we choose to support and be a part of. Learning about where the food we eat comes from and the processes it goes through along the way are important to both our health and the health of the environment in which we live. Knowing that a problems exist is the first step in changing our perception of reality and allows us to begin taking action and making change.

Together we will help one another forge new paths to lead healthier, more sustainable lives through health and wellness. Thank you for visiting and feel free to look around, comment, and ask for direction!

Unfortunately, this is a very novice approach to producing compost which might leave you with either…

Reduce, Reuse, THEN Recycle

Both professional and amateur environmentalists alike speak about the importance of recycling. In 2020, we have all heard the motto “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”. Even still, we live in a time where human garbage production continues to increase exponentially (idk if it’s exponential, if not, then drastically will work), far beyond amounts that allow for proper…

Plastic bags are used in our society almost everyday, at most every market we frequent. We use them to carry everything from groceries to clothes to household wares. Once they make it to our homes they either end up straight into the garbage or maybe stuffed together in another bag under our sink. Rarely do…
